The Innsbruck area
Innsbruck is surrounded by striking mountain chains and gentle Alpine hills, valleys, peaks, glaciers and lakes, climbing gardens and mountain bike and hiking trails, alp huts, lookout points and anecdotes galore.
A lovely place to explore is the Stubai Valley – described by many visitors as a place where time stands still – with its many small lakes and lush green meadows. The Stubai Glacier at the head of the valley is open year-round.
The Kaiser Max via ferrata at Zirl near Innsbruck is one of the most demanding in the Eastern Alps. It takes around 4 hours to complete this route in the perpendicular Martinswand rock face. Mountain bikers will find several trail options around Innsbruck, for instance on the Muttereralm.
At the southern tip of the city on the Inn, you will find verdant meadows at the foot of the Patscherkofel Olympic peak. Hiking at various altitudes and playing golf on Innsbruck’s largest green are just two of many attractions that include summer tobogganing, relaxing, cultural and culinary experiences and much more.
